A catheter is inserted into the femoral vein and reaches the pulmonary artery; the pressures in the right heart chamber, the pulmonary artery and its branches are measured; then, a contrast agent is injected.

 

When is this procedure needed?

 

As a rule, it is performed before medical invasive manipulations in patients with pulmonary embolism or upon the cardiac surgeon’s request before an open heart surgery.
