Consultation with a cardiac surgeon
Consultation with a cardiac surgeon is hosted by a surgeon who operates on the heart and the main blood vessels.
When is it necessary to consult with a cardiac surgeon?
In most cases, the consultation is conducted upon the recommendation of the cardiologist when a person suffers from:
- ischemic heart disease (angina, myocardial infarction);
- heart defects (heart valve disease: mitral insufficiency, mitral stenosis, aortic stenosis, aortic insufficiency; atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect…);
- aneurysm of the thoracic aorta;
- life-threatening rhythm and conduction disturbances (atrioventricular blocks, sinus node weakness syndrome, other types of tachy- and bradyarrhythmias), which require the implantation of a pacemaker.
What operations does a cardiac surgeon perform?
- operations during which blood supply to the heart is restored (aorto-coronary bypass (CABG), mammary-coronary bypass);
- corrections of the heart defects (congenital and acquired): mitral valve plastic surgery, mitral valve prosthetics, aortic heart valve prosthetics);
- installation of a pacemaker (in case of rhythm disturbance);
- dissection or aneurysm of the aorta.
A heart surgeon is a savior of human hearts. In our Center, cardiac surgeons are experts in their field, opinion leaders in Ukraine, freelance specialists, consultants, and representatives of Ukrainian and world institutions. We adhere to the principles of evidence-based medicine. A cardiac surgeon works on the principles of high-quality technological medicine in Lviv. We offer international standards of diagnosis and treatment of pathology of the heart and blood vessels; innovative approaches to cardiology and cardiac surgery; joint diagnosis and treatment of complex clinical cases together with Polish colleagues (from the Jagiellonian University, Krakow). We work under the auspices of the President of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI).
