CT coronary angiography

CT coronary angiography is an examination of the anatomy of coronary arteries which allows for the detection of stenoses and occlusions of the coronary artery branches and aneurysms, as well as helps determine the patency of shunts after shunting.

Our Center performs CT coronary angiography in Lviv 24/7 quickly and painlessly. The advantage of computed tomography of the coronary arteries (a CT scan of the heart vessels, a CT scan of the heart arteries) is high diagnostic accuracy, fast scanning (which takes a few minutes), the possibility to simultaneously examine several organs and systems, and minimal preparation for the examination. A professional team of experienced doctors quickly provides the results of examination.

As a rule, CT coronary angiography is performed when the patient has the following complaints: chest pain, angina pectoris, shortness of breath, previous heart attack, pre-infarction condition, breathing disorders, rapid heartbeat, cough, arrhythmia, and heart failure.

CT coronary angiography is performed with contrast enhancement.

CT coronary angiography allows to assess the condition of coronary arteries with high accuracy non-invasively, in outpatient conditions, to detect atherosclerotic plaques of their walls, to determine the type of blood supply, to calculate the coronary calcium index (calcium scoring CaScore), to determine the place and degree of narrowing of the coronary arteries and help choose further treatment tactics for ischemic heart disease. In addition, during CT coronary angiography, the ascending aorta, pulmonary trunk and pulmonary arteries, myocardium, pericardium, cavities and valves of the heart, visible parts of the lungs, and abdominal cavity can be evaluated.

Indications for CT coronary angiography:

  • clinical manifestations of angina pectoris in case of questionable ultrasound, ECG, or stress test data;
  • detection of the changes on ultrasound, ECG, and stress tests in the absence of angina;
  • preoperative assessment of the state of coronary arteries in patients who are scheduled for surgical interventions to eliminate cardiovascular pathologies;
  • non-invasive assessment of the condition of coronary shunts and stents after the aortocoronary bypass surgery or percutaneous transluminal coronary artery angioplasty (PTCA) with stent implantation;
  • atypical chest pains in patients after coronary artery angioplasty;
  • diagnostics of aneurysms and congenital anomalies of the coronary arteries;
  • clarification of the reasons for the ineffectiveness of the prescribed medication for coronary heart disease and angina pectoris;
  • sharp pain in the chest of an unclear nature (for quick and reliable differential diagnosis of life-threatening conditions, such as myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, aneurysm, or dissection of the aorta);
  • clarification of selective interventional coronary angiography data.
