ECHO (ultrasound) of the heart is a non-invasive method of examining the heart and the main blood vessels using ultrasound.

When is it necessary to conduct ECHO of the heart?
If one
- is troubled by shortness of breath;
- has a feeling of lack of air;
- has chest pain;
- experiences sensation of accelerated or irregular heartbeat;
- has high blood pressure;
- observes that the lower limbs (shins) swell.
It is also recommended to prevent heart disease by going to routine check-ups when no symptoms are observed.
What can be “seen” during ECHO of the heart?
- the structure of the heart, the state of the valvular system, the main blood vessels;
- congenital and acquired heart defects;
- contractility of the heart;
- diseases of the cardiovascular system;

- the thickness and preservation of the function of the walls of the heart and the dimensions of its chambers;
- the pressure in the chambers of the heart and the main vessels;
- the presence of blood clots, vegetation and aneurysms;
- presence of the heart muscle inflammation.
What are the types of ECHO of the heart?
- transthoracic echocardiography (also called external);
- transesophageal echocardiography.
